O cristianismo ocidental em perspectiva: a conversão monárquica nos reinos suevo e de Kent (séculos VI-VII)

Resumo: Na formação dos reinos romano-germânicos entre os séculos V-VI, observamos uma tendência à aliança entre a Igreja e a monarquia, ambas em processo de construção e fortalecimento. A conversão dos monarcas e o mútuo apoio entre as instituições, entretanto, devem ser analisados por suas especificidades locais. Assim sendo, propomos uma comparação entre os casos suevo e anglo-saxônico, avaliando as circunstâncias e as relações de poder que se estabelecem na Galiza e na Britânia, os vínculos estabelecidos com a sede romana e os interlocutores do processo de cristianização/conversão, isto é os “adversários” da fé, pagãos e/ou hereges, que se apresentariam como entrave à uniformização eclesiástica em cada comunidade. Palavras-chave: episcopado; monarquia; cristianismo ocidental Abstract: During the formation of the Roman-Germanic kingdoms in the fifth and sixth centuries, the alliance between the Church and the monarchy was recurring, while both were being built building and strengthening themselves. The conversion of the kings and mutual support among the institutions, however, should be analysed in light of their local specificities. Therefore, we propose a comparison between the Suevian and Anglo-Saxon cases, assessing the circumstances and power relations that are established in Galicia and in Britain, the links established with the Roman See and the counterparts of the Christianization process / conversion, to say, the "enemies" of the faith, pagan and/or heretics who would be presented as an obstacle to the ecclesiastical uniformity in each community.
