Resumo

Resumo Os principais elementos arturianos que circularam em Portugal durante a Idade Média são as imagens de rei-guerreiro e rei-justo que aparecem principalmente na Demanda do Santo Graal (1250), Libro de las Generaciones (1270) e Livro de Linhagens do Conde D. Pedro (1340). Esta imagem beneficiou o fortalecimento régio de alguns reis, como Afonso III (1248-1279), que estava em processo de centralização do poder. Além disso, crônicas posteriores a sua morte também o associam com atributos arturianos. O artigo mostra o uso da literatura arturiana para o fortalecimento régio e compara a imagem do Artur ibérico com a obra Historia Regum Britanniae (1135-1138), de Geoffrey de Monmouth. Palavras-chave: Rei Artur, guerreiro, Afonso III de Portugal Abstract The main Arthurian elements that circulated in Portugal during the Middle Ages are the images of the fair king and the warrior king which are presented especially in The Quest for the Holy Grail (Demanda do Santo Graal) (1250), Libro de las Generaciones (Book of Generations) (1270) and Livro de Linhagens do Conde D. Pedro (1340). This image has done well to some kings, such as Afonso III (1248-1279), who was in process of power centralization. Furthermore, the chronicles written after this king’s death also associated him with Arthurian attributes. The paper shows the usage of Arthurian Literature for the process of strength of the kings’ political power and compares the image of the Iberian Arthur with the work Historia Regum Britanniae (1135-138), by Geoffrey de Monmouth.
