Klassische und volkssprachige Terminologie in der englischen Fassung von 1525 von Hieronymus Brunschwigs Buch der Cirurgie

Zusammenfassung: Vorliegende Untersuchung hat The noble experyence of the virtuous handy Warke of surgery (1525) als Zeuge für die Verbreitung von Hieronymus Brunschwigs Handbuch der Chirurgie im englischen Sprachraum zum Gegenstand, mit besonderer Berücksichtigung seiner Beziehung zu den anderen Fassungen und seiner Stellung in der Überlieferungsgeschichte des Textes. Ferner soll das Verhältnis zwischen dem im Text eingesetzten klassischen und volkssprachigen Fachvokabular auf der Basis einer Analyse der Fachtermini beschrieben werden, die den einschlägigen semantischen Feldern der Anatomie, der Pathologie und der chirurgischen Techniken und Instrumente zugeordnet werden können. Stichwörter: Brunschwigs Buch der Cirurgia – Englische Fassung – Fachsprache Abstract: In this study the 1525 English translation of Hieronymus Brunschwig’s Buch der Cirurgia (Noble experyence of the virtuous handy Warke of surgery) will be dealt with, paying particular attention to its relationship to the other versions of the text. Furthermore, the specialized terminology used to refer to the semantic fields of anatomy, pathology and surgical technique and instruments will be investigated, in order to outline the relationship between vernacular and classical terminology.
