A PRESENÇA DE UM HERÓI ROMANO NO DE BELLO GALLICO: UMA PROPOSTA DE ESTUDO

Resumo

Resumo: O De bello Gallico representa um recurso usual para o conhecimento dos povos conquistados, tanto em relação à organização política quanto aos usos e costumes. Deve-se, entretanto, observar que o personagem central do comentário enxerga povos conquistados – e por conquistar – através do olhar do conquistador romano: as instituições e os valores morais são analisados a partir da nomenclatura e conceitos latinos - e da forma de organização política, social e religiosa romanas. César fala de povos de hábitos que seriam considerados exóticos. Alguns povos por vezes são apontados como valorosos moralmente, quando são observadas questões comportamentais, como a dedicação aos exercícios físicos, e também certos pudores pessoais. Escolhendo-se uma análise literária do texto, percebe-se que o autor faz uso de uma série de recursos do texto narrativo como a presença de um narrador, de um personagem central, César, e da localização espacial detalhada. O espaço, as terras por onde fez sentir o poderio romano, formal e exaustivamente definido, apresenta a proposta política do protagonista – mostrando um certo caráter propagandístico da obra. E o destaque dado a personagens ditos adversários do romano, tanto por suas características físicas quanto comportamentais engrandece-os, fazendo com que se tornem dignos de lutar com um herói. Partindo destas breves considerações, o presente trabalho objetiva destacar as estruturas textuais que permitam analisar não só o personagem César, mas também os que são apresentados como seus adversários, em especial no Livro VI, quando fala dos germanos. Palavras-chave: personagem, comportamento, herói, César, narrativa Abstract: The book De bello Gallico represents a common resource used for the recognition of conquered peoples in relation to their politic organization and their habits and customs. However, we should notice that the main character of the book sees these conquered peoples and the others yet to conquer through the eyes of a Roman conqueror; the institutions, the moral values, the politic, social and religious organization are analyzed through Latin concepts and terminology. In this book Caesar writes about peoples with habits that were considered exotic. Sometimes, some of these peoples were pointed as morally valiant when it comes to behavior’s issues such as their dedication to physical activity and certain personal modesty. Through the choice of a literary analysis of the text we can notice that the author uses a group of resources from the narrative text, like the presence of a narrator, the presence of a main character, represented by Caesar, and the presentation of a detailed geographic location. The locations and the lands where the formal and exhaustively defined Roman power led by Caesar could be felt present the political proposal of the protagonist: it shows the marketing quality of this literary work. The importance given to the physical and behavior characteristics of some characters that were considered as enemies of the Roman glamorizes these characters, making them worthy enemies to fight against a hero. Starting from these brief considerations, the aim of this paper is to highlight the textual structures that will allow us to analyze not only Caesar as a character, but also the other characters presented as his enemies, especially in Book VI when he writes about the Germanic peoples.
