Abstract

The book Palácio das Lágrimas is notably a critique of nineteenth-century slavery. Historical novel was written by Clodoaldo Freitas from Piauí, and is a characteristic book of his period that reflects on historical events in a literary way. O Palácio das Lágrima is a novel that uses a narrative of popular origin about an abandoned mansion and according to tradition it was haunted. In this way, the author used a narrative that already existed in the popular imagination and used it to write a historical novel that showed severe criticisms of slave society.
