“ANTÔNIO DÓ - SEVERE BANDIT. BUT FOR HALF”: THE REPRESENTATION OF THE JAGUNÇO OF MINAS GERAIS IN THE LITERARY CARTOGRAPHY OF MANOEL AMBROSIO

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the novel Antônio Dó: the bandit of barrancas (1976), by Manoel Ambrósio Alves de Oliveira (1865 - 1947), from Minas Gerais, based on the initial study carried out by Francisco de Vasconcellos (1976). In this sense, after documental research in periodicals and bibliography review, it is possible to understand how the author built a kind of literary cartography of the Middle São Francisco river in the beginning of the 20th century, sketched from an exercise of fictionalization of memories about the conflicts that involved the jagunço Antônio Antunes de França and that, in some way, were also a reflection of the persecutions and inconveniences suffered by the writer.
