Abstract

The goal of this work is to present the tale The Courter by Salman Rushdie as a place of memory, and discuss how the literature of this Indian writer, as general, can be understood as such. In the perspective of the studied tale, the writer gives voice to a character that based on his group and individual memories brings his past experiences as an immigrant in London. The analysis will take into consideration textual inferences that takes to a comprehension of this narrative as a place of memory. The basis theories chosen to assist this understanding was mainly the studies of Halbwachs (1990) and his book Collective Memory and the defiinitions of Nora (1993) about the theme, place of memory.. Furthermore, the studies of Hall (2006) and Said (1990) about building identities will be considered.
