Abstract

The study is developed from the interpretative analysis of the book Desmundo (1996) by the writer Ana Miranda. The purpose is to point out the relevance of literary narrative for the understanding of the historical and cultural experience of women in colonial Brazil. It seeks to articulate the interdisciplinary dialogue between literature and history, focusing on the narrative of the novel about the coming of young orphans from Portugal to Brazil with the intention of marriage. Oribela, the narrator-character, tells the colonial story from her point of view, exploring the theme of female submission in society within these historical frameworks. Thus, when we explore the fruitful dialogues between historical narrative and literary narrative, we open space both to problematize the traditional ways of representing time, as well as the very richness of the work for the understanding of the cultural, social and subjective universe of women in time. The methodology will consist of an interpretative reflection based on bibliographic research. As a theoretical framework of approach, we will dialogue with: Del Priore (1993), Ferreira (2013), White (1994), Burker (1992), Barros (2010), among others.
