Abstract

Veganism has two strands: liberal veganism (also called strategic) and popular veganism. Our object of study is focused on popular veganism and has as its corpus the documentary by the collective “Vegano Periférico”, which defends an accessible and inclusive veganism. In this sense, we analyze the production of meaning in the vegan political discourse, from the perspective of the theory of French discourse analysis. Through language, we were able to show ideological positions (of a Marxist nature), based on concepts related to alienation, lack of information for the population and the relationship between consumption and production. In this sense, we observe a discursive formation that points to the alienation of peripheral subjects and to the lack of access to information, in this case, on how the animal exploitation industry is articulated. In this way, the documentary produces meanings in utterances that address the visibility and invisibility of these peripheral subjects.
