Abstract

This article aims to analyze the mythical figure of Faust and his relationship, direct or indirect, with Macário, drama by Álvares de Azevedo (1831-1852), and the aspects in which a hypothetical modern “pact”, extracted from the myth, related to overcoming certain fears that inhabited the imagination of medieval man, can be glimpsed in the mental attitude of the Brazilian poet in the face of the idea of death, as seen in his poetry, from which one can, preliminarily, infer a certain overcoming of fear of this terrible evil.
