Abstract: Romanticism, for Rosenfeld and Guinsburg (2005), is, above all, an avant-garde movement that influences generations since its emergence during the eighteenth century. The Romantic Movement is seen as a strong opposition to the rationalist dictates of the classical movement and is dedicated to a subjective worldview that defends a cultural atmosphere focused on the sentimentalism and identity of their respective artists. Within this perspective, this article aims to analyze the relationship of the influences of the movement and romantic poets in the song “The Lakes” (2020), by the American artist Taylor Swift, starting from the idea that the song presents a romantic identity in the lyrical and imagery composition of the work. The theoretical basis comes from the categorization of Rosenfeld and Guinsburg (2005), goes through the proposal of William Raymond (1960) and Azevedo (2017) on culture and romantic artists, based on the discussion about William Wordsworth’s life and work, by Borges (2019), and it is expanded based on Zeitz’s ideas (2023).
