The main objective of this work is to develop some reflections and considerations on literary journalism, a hybrid textual modality that emerged in the 20th century, whose taxonomic insertion lies between the boundaries of journalism and literature (notably in the field of literary narrative). Based on the theoretical considerations of several scholars in the field of social communication and literary studies – Lima (1969), Pena (2022), Borges (2013), Cosson (2001), Cunha (1976), Soares (1989), Bakhtin (2003) et al – we seek, in this work, to point out and analyze the context in which the aforementioned journalistic-literary genre emerged, its constitution and consolidation in the field of modern literary genres and its implications in contemporary times, as well as a succinct presentation of a classic example of the genre, the work In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote, considered the precursor of New Journalism, called by the author as a “non-fiction novel”. Finally, the article aims, in a work of synthesis, to present the importance and contributions of literature in the field of journalism, as well as the implications of this symbiotic relationship in the formation and consolidation of New Journalism in contemporary culture.
