Abstract

This text offers a reflection on the dissemination of contemporary Brazilian literature abroad, based on a project to translate into English the reviews published on the digital platform Praça Clóvis – Critical Mapping of Contemporary Brazilian Literature. Coordinated by Professor Regina Dalcastagnè (University of Brasília), Praça Clóvis brings together an extensive overview of novels published since the 1970s. The article highlights the international collaboration organized by Professors Claire Williams (University of Oxford) and Sophia Beal (University of Minnesota), who led teams of undergraduate and graduate students in the voluntary and educational translation of reviews from the website. Through testimonials and interviews with the faculty members and students involved, the text analyzes the dynamics of collaborative work, the linguistic and cultural challenges of translation (such as the negotiation of idiomatic terms and sociological contexts), and the impact of this initiative. The project is presented as a doubly effective tool: on the one hand, it serves as an international showcase for publishers, literary agents, and English-speaking readers; on the other, it establishes itself as a means of practical and holistic training for new translators and Brazilian studies scholars.
