Uma Introdução ao Estudo da Conversão e das Práticas Mágicas na Inglaterra Anglo-Saxônica

Resumo O estudo das práticas mágicas e da religiosidade popular durante a Idade Média é uma área de estudo que tem atraído a atenção de novas gerações de historiadores. Entretanto, o estudo voltado para a Alta Idade Média ainda é muito pouco explorado, devido à falta de fontes escritas. Isto é claramente observado quando se trata da Inglaterra entre os séculos V e XI. Assim, através deste artigo pretendemos apresentar uma introdução a este campo de estudo por meio dos principais elementos da religiosidade laica do período, suas manifestações e tentativas de repressão. Palavras-chave: Religiosidade, Inglaterra, Anglo-saxões Abstract The study of magical practices and popular religion during the Middle Ages is an area of study that has atracted the atention of new generations of historians. However, the study focused on the Early Middle Ages is not largely explored, due to the lack of written sources. This is clearly observed when one deals with England between the fifth and eleventh centuries. Therefore, through this article I intend to present an introduction into that field of study by taking into consideration the main elements of the lay religiosity of that period, its manifestations and the intentions to repress it.
