Abstract

This work aims to analyze the contribution of two geographers from Pernambuco who pioneered, in the 1960's, presented a proposal for dividing the Zona da Mata from Pernambuco. An attempt was made to expand the description of these authors to the aforementioned space and to employ new technical instruments provided by Modern Cartography to the study. In order to carry out this work, an extensive bibliographic research was carried out on the main aspects of the natural framework of the eastern portion of Pernambuco and an analysis of the classic texts of Physical Geography that deal with the various elements of the landscape, in addition to the genesis and evolution of the compartmentalization of the relief of the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco. SRTM maps, at different scales, Google Earth images and altimetric maps were used in the analysis. The climatic analysis was performed based on the interpretation of monthly and annual data from historical series from SUDENE and those provided by the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency-APAC.
