Abstract

The study of the soybean pre-conditions in Mato Grosso’s Cerrado demands us to revisit the territorial production process related to the city, countryside and networks, aspects that require awareness, especially in regard to the region of Rondonópolis, whose period of reference is the 1970s, when the economic model of soy began, being registered from then on successive improvements on the socio-spatial order in infrastructural and institutional organisations linked to the characteristics of this historic landmark. As a basic assumption, it is considered that from this period, with the political division of Mato Grosso, the city of Rondonópolis and its region were positioned in a prominent place, becoming the gateway to Mato Grosso. At the state level, this period marked the territorial and urban restructuring in Mato Grosso, which we define here as pre-conditions for soy in the new period marked by the agrarian modernisation.
