Abstract

The installation of the Belo Monte HPP changed the regional dynamic and triggered significant territorial transformations in the countryside and in the city. The article deals with the consequences of compulsory displacement. It was chosen as objective to analyze the implications in the intra-urban space in Altamira, for the residents who lived in the directly aff ected area. The bibliographical review, case study, fi eld work and application of forms were used as a methodological approach. It was concluded that the installation of a hydroelectric plant was responsible for altering the segregation, for the local society, through new social relations engendered, materialized in the city’s intraurban space. It was concluded that those relocated to new neighborhoods suffer a new form of segregation, corporately planned and ordered.
