This article aims to analyze the density and rarefaction of industrial activity in the state of Alagoas in the light of a geographical reading. The methodology comprised the bibliographic research, centered on propositions about method, geographic space, used territory, territorial and economic formation of Alagoas, urban network and spatial organization of the Alagoas industry; and documental research, with data collection and publications from public and private offi cial bodies. The main results reveal that: a) industrial activity in Alagoas is unequally concentrated in the territory and is reflected in the urban hierarchy from its main centers; b) the organization of the urban network and the factors of industrial location are essential variables for understanding the current spatial organization of the industry in the state; c) the industrial density in Alagoas is relative, even those centers considered dense are still lethargic points compared to the national and even regional reality.
