Abstract

This research asks which conflicts and contradictions about the city of Vitória-ES are materialized in Capixaba songs. The objective is to contribute to a critical musical education in the public school, from the perspective of the Right to the city, considering that the research results support the development of educational material to be shared and evaluated in the training of Basic Education teachers. For that, it uses the following discussions: work and culture; education and city and musical education in the historical-cultural perspective. In addition to the existential elements of each composer, the analyzed songs call attention to aspects of urban mobility between Vitória and its neighboring municipalities, the still existing condition of a “dormitory city”, the migratory movements from the countryside to urban spaces, the occupation on the edge tide, as well as hope for social and political changes.
