ABSTRACT: The aim of this article is to analyze the gender relations that permeate the narrative of the novella Sorte (Luck), by Nara Vidal. It seeks to highlight the maintenance of patriarchal oppression in different instances presented in the work, both through the domination exercised by the slave system and by the Church. All these forms of relationship and power are very well demonstrated in the violence and oppression experienced by the characters Margareth and Mariava. To do so, we will briefly refer to the concept of subalternity proposed by Spivak (2010/2014) and to some concepts and critiques presented in the essay "Feminist Criticism", by Zolin (2009) for a more plural study of women's representations, among other theorists.
KEYWORDS: Gender; Subalternity; Representation.
