Abstract

Abstract: This article offers a critical look at the situation of ancestral knowledge, from a review of Quechua as a mother tongue and as a second language in Peru, especially taking into account its evolution as a written language. The acquisition and teaching of Quechua is explored, to reflect on the historical exclusion of Quechua and its speakers, which continues to this day, despite the fact that since 1993 the Peruvian constitution considers all native languages official. It is concluded that this persistent exclusion puts ancestral knowledge at risk, to the extent that it violates and destroys intergenerational transmission ties, harming and limiting the possibilities of revitalizing ancestral knowledge; however, there are also possibilities to turn the risk into opportunity.

Keywords: Quechua. Peru. Acquisition. Teaching. Exclusion.
