In celebration of the bicentenary of one of the great Brazilian poets, Antônio Gonçalves Dias (1823-1864), from Maranhão, we propose, in this article, to reflect on the confluence between Literature and Music, based on the poet's production. For this action, our corpus and analysis comprise the renowned poem “Canção do Exílio”, belonging to the work Primeiros Cantos (1846), and its musicalized version for two-voice choir, with the same name, by the renowned Brazilian composer Heitor Villa- Wolves (1887-1959). We seek to analyze how the transposition of the poem to the score is established and the reading/listening possibilities granted to the text, by the literary-musical confluence, through the musicalization of poems. As a theoretical basis, we base our propositions on the assumptions of Tatit (2007), Vilariño (2016), Villalta (1999), Schöenberg (1963), Leal (1987), Dias (2018), Moraes (1998), Bandeira (1943), among others. Our analysis points to the potential that the confluence of arts produces, both in expanding the audience and in the reception process.
