Abstract

This article is part of the research line Grammar and Lexicon: Description and Teaching within the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Letters at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). It originates from an ongoing doctoral dissertation and has as its general objective, from a constructivist perspective, to analyze the construction of the semantic-enunciative meaning of the linguistic units "bem" (well) and "mal" (bad) from the standpoint of the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations. The study is based on the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TOPE) developed by the French linguist Antoine Culioli (1976, 1990, 1999b), as well as on studies by Culioli's followers such as Franckel and Paillard (2011), De Vogüé (2011), and other reflections, such as Groussier (2000). These works postulate that the meaning of lexical units is not fixed but constructed within and through the utterance. The methodology of analysis is based on the activity of manipulating and reformulating utterances, i.e., the practice of elaborating glosses. Understanding how pre-established lexical and grammatical categories function is based on the hypothesis that categorization does not aid in comprehending how these values are unstable depending on occurrences.

Keywords: "Bem" and "Mal" units. Meaning construction. Referential values. TOPE.
