Abstract

This work aims at presenting the “Goianês” as an essential linguistic of the Goianian identity or “goianidade”. By the term “goianidade”, one means the distinctive property of the Goianian individual as a striking element of the contryman cultural identity. The “Goianês”, in its turn, is the set of features of the Goiás State’s speech commonly stigmatized as “speaking wrong” which however are valued by the Goianian individuals as a fundamental part of their identity. From a historical research as well as a research supported by the methodology of digital ethnography, or netnography, we show how the “goianidade” has been built and then disseminated and understood in social networks, focusing on aspects of the Goianian speech, the “Goianese”. The Goianian indivuidual explores and values characteristics that, in Brazilian Portuguese, are stigmatized: the absence of nominal and verbal agreement. From the netnographic analysis, it is possible to show that the absence of agreement is not seen by Goianian individual as “wrong”, but it is identified as a typical way of speaking in the State of Goiás.
