This comparative study aims to analyze the short stories "Felicidade Clandestina" by Clarice Lispector and "Negrinha" by Monteiro Lobato, exploring the female figures, cruelty, and oppression present in both tales. In these works, the two young protagonists experience oppression and atrocities from the antagonists who are capable of performing good actions as long as they allow them to exercise their pleasure. For this investigation, the theoretical framework that supports this research is based on the postulates of Moisés Gancho (2004), Rodrigues (2014), along with the works of the scholar Nitrini (2000), Gotlib (1995), and other researchers, who in their writings portray the socio-historical context of the time as well as the characteristics present in the characters.
Keywords: Short story; Oppression; Cruelty; Comparative study.
