This article intends to expose the regional debate through those most signifi cant authors of the French School of Geography, to reflect whether or not this theme fits in elementary and high school in the Brazilian public school. This interest is due to the new guidelines for school education in which they point to the teaching of geographical categories, as one of their purposes. We aspire to leave some considerations and questions for the group of professionals who are in public school and inserted in this context of change.
