The article seeks to understand the dimension of the National Didactic Book Program (PNLD), as well as the direct impact of the program, on Brazilian education. Because the didactic book is an important subsidy in the teaching-learning process, an instrument for building the student’s knowledge, and it is up to the teachers to use it as one of the tools of this process (but not the only one). We will also seek to understand how the didactic books market is confi gured with its concentration on strong publishing groups (many foreigners) and how this market is increasingly competitive and demanding (which ends up improving the quality of books that reach public schools everyyear through National Didactic Book Program (PNLD)). This article used questionnaires with authors and researchers of Geography didactic books, made in 2015 to research the doctoral thesis in Geography (Geography Teaching Line) at POSGEA-UFRGS (2018); where Geography didactic books from the last few decades (1930 to 2017) were analyzed.
