This article is part of a doctoral research developed in the Postgraduate Program in Geography at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, Rio Claro campus. The purpose of this article is to present the potential of the continuing education course entitled “Contributions of local cartography to the teaching of geography in the city of Uberaba/MG”, given to teachers from the municipal network of this city. The general objective of the course was to provide teachers with an approach to the themes, concepts and practices of Cartography, the landscape and the place, questioning their implications in the formation of subjects in basic education and in the possible practices to be developed in the classroom with the addressed topics. Thus, this article intends to present the methodology applied throughout the course and the analysis of the results obtained through the practical activities that were developed by the teachers and applied to their students in the school units of the city of Uberaba/MG.
