A new issue of Revista Ciência Geográfica, this time number 1/2022, volume XXVI, is available to the Brazilian geographic community and elsewhere. For more than twenty-seven years, the Associação de Geógrafos Brasileiros (AGB), Section Bauru, has been carrying out the herculean but rewarding task of producing, disseminating and popularizing the geographic knowledge produced in Brazil and in other lands of the planet. The reader will get in touch, in this issue, with thirty articles that are distributed in two fundamental axes. There are more than five hundred and eighty pages that scientifi cally and vertically approach so many fascinating and motivating topics in Geography. The first axis focuses entirely on Regional Analysis, one of the pillars of Geography, of an important Brazilian macro-region, the Northeast. The second contemplates themes of expressive importance in General Geography, thus resuming the division of Classical Geography, which remains healthy, especially for the teaching and learning process of “Humboldt’s Science”, without deconstructing, under any circumstances, the aphorism “Geography is one”! In thirteen articles, written at the invitation of the editors of the Revista Ciência Geográfica, themes of an eminently geographical nature that are present in individualized areas, singular landscapes, of a “Region of contrasts” are scrutinized, paraphrasing here, with due respect, what said the northeastern geographer Manuel Correia de Andrade. The Brazilian Northeast, with its more than 1,600,000 km², full of physical, social and economic contrasts, is made up of realities that fascinate authors from the most diverse academic backgrounds. Since or even well before Euclides da Cunha, researchers have studied and continue to study this regional space, from methodological, ideological, political perspectives and using the most different techniques. It is impossible to exhaust the analysis of this regional space in which the colonization of Terra Brasilis began. The natural structuring of landscapes in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco, relief patterns in Cariri Pernambucano, Geoenvironmental Dynamics of the agrarian space of Brejo Paraibano, Desertification in the semi-arid region of Sergipe, Family agroecosystems and Renewable energies are some of the themes presented, in this axis, to the reader interested in better understand the dynamics of the Brazilian northeast space.
It is hoped that this issue of Revista Ciência Geográfica will be useful to the praxis of students, Geography teachers of higher basic education and geographers, and help them to better understand reality so that it can be transformed, benefiting the entire Brazilian society.
